Fra Josip Vlašić was born in 1978 in Sovići. It is a member of the Franciscan Province of Herzegovina. He was ordained a priest in 2007. He gained his first pastoral experiences in the monastery and parish of Široki Brijeg, especially as a religious teacher in secondary schools and a spiritual assistant to the Franciscan youth. From 2010 to 2013, he was the national and regional spiritual assistant of the Franciscan Youth and the Franciscan Secular Order, as well as a promoter of spiritual vocations in his community. From 2013 to 2016, he was the pastor in the parish of St. Peter and Paul in Mostar. On his own initiative, from 2016 to 2021 he is a member of the international and then interprovincial brotherhood of new forms of life in the Order of Friars Minor and lives in Pazin. In those years, together with his brothers, he launched an important evangelistic project called E-Spiritual Exercises (E-duhovne vježbe), which he continues to develop. In 2021, he came to Masna Luka (Blidinje) and became the head of the Franciscan House of Prayer and chaplain of the independent chaplaincy of St. Elijah - Polja.

The Author Speaks

Jesus' promise was fulfilled in Mary, and it will be fulfilled in each of us. Jesus said, “Where I am, there also will my servant be”. Where Jesus, her Son, is, Mary is there too. Her home is in Heaven. She was assumed into that home with her body and soul. Can we say that Mary was a handmaid of Jesus? Yes, we can. This is exactly how Mary perceived herself. At the moment of Jesus’ conception, she acknowledged herself as a handmaid of the Lord. She served the Good News, she served the Kingdom of God, she served her Son and his Church. What she did while on earth, Mary continues to do in heaven. As our Mother, she continues to intercede for us in heaven and watches over our steps with her motherly heart as we pass through this valley of tears. She is in Heaven, but not far from us. She is in Heaven and she is close to all our needs. She is in Heaven, but her motherly heart beats in each of us.
